Car History

Prototype Information: First arriving on the North American Railroading scene in 2008, these high capacity, pressurized liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and low pressure high hazard chemical tank cars are distinctive for their lap welded spiral seams formed by an outer tank jacket constructed from a single sheet of hot rolled steel with several versions of overlapping "lap welding".

Manufactured by American Railroad Industries, Inc. (ARI) and The Greenbrier Companies (Greenbrier) this spiral tank car design offers lower construction costs and increased safety features including improved tank puncture resistance and increased structural integrity.

Model Versions

Version 1 of this model run represents the spiral tank cars manufactured by Greenbrier with a less prominent "under over" lap welded seam, shorter upper walkway, four handrail stanchions and more laterally placed underbody brake equipment.

Version 2 of this model run represents the spiral tank cars manufactured by ARI with a more prominent "over  under" lap weld seam, longer upper walkway, five handrail stanchions and more medially placed underbody brake equipment.

Version 3 of this model run represents the spiral tank cars manufactured by ARI similar to the Version 2 models with the exception of the brake equipment positioned above the frame on the "B end" of the car.
